Alex Ross' hotly awaited book is almost out--an absolute must-read for all concerned with concert music now. Adam Kirsch, writing for the Sun, offers a nice review. The first of many, no doubt--and this from a poet!

Oh, but Adam is so much more than a poet. He is the finest critic of his generation when it comes to books in general, I believe. His new book of criticism, lated for publication soon by Norton, along with his second book of poems, also due out, will place him as a clear leader of his generation in the field of letters. I was just about to send you over to the NY Sun review but I see that you beat me to it, of course! See you Sunday.
